Day 10

The St. Augustine Farmer’s Market is huge in terms of popularity and size.  We waited in a line of cars for about half hour just to get off of A1A and into the parking lot.  Getting through the lot was difficult due to the many old Florida drivers looking to get a close parking space.  Just let us get through to the back so we can park.  This Farmer’s Market rivals the Boulder Farmer’s Market and once inside, the crowd was young, families, older folks, etc.  Great produce, crafts, baked goods, etc.  As we walked from the parking lot, we heard a Mike Cross song, Rocky Top (for those of you Dukies).  A live band of about 20 random people were playing together on a make shift stage (think Pickers Shed at Albert Music Hall).  The atmosphere was relaxed and fun.  We will be back every Saturday.


BTW, I am still working on trying to get the videos to play.  Perhaps, one of the boys or Kathryn or Jess will help me with that.
Then, we explored Matanzas State Park and I took Manny and Michael for a 6 mile hike/walk, both off leash.  And, no coercion needed.  No elevation here, but it was pretty and we did see 2 bald eagles and what I believe to be bear prints.  Obviously, Manny is having the best time.
We went to our favorite restaurant for the 2nd time (only been to 3 so far) and it did not disappoint.  Michael will be trying to replicate the shrimp appetizer while he is home this week.  I hope he is successful.  Overall, the food has been good.  So far, though, no NY deli.  This is Ontario and mid-west country.

 Kinston NC (Neuseway Campground) to Charleston, SC (James Island Campground) 2/5/22:  Stopped in Georgetown, SC and parked just outside of town (the truck and trailer barely fit down the small streets) and walked about a mile into town with the dogs. It's a very small and quaint southern town on the coast where we had lunch at a place (Aunny's) that had one woman cooking in the kitchen and another one waiting tables.  It was filled with locals and when we tied the dogs up outside and walked in, one of the guys eating near the window said, "Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on them."  Lunch was delicious fried chicken, collards, corn bread and red rice.   Arrived at James Island and got settled.   The campground is located halfway between Folly Beach and downtown Charleston.  Very convenient location and they even have a shuttle into Charleston which I would have considered taking had I known how tough and expensive it is to park.  So, we started our 2nd long trip on 2/3/22 along with Sunny and Manny who are champion travelers and are loving their time in and out of the Airstream.       They make themselves right at home.  Sunny enjoys taking up as much room as she can.  Now you know why we had to sell the 25' and buy the 28'.   I have been a little behind in keeping track of what we've been up to, but time to start to catch up.  We left home on 2/3/22 to drive to Ashland, VA in the pouring rain and 15-20 mph winds.  Not a lot of fun while towing 6000 lbs.  Most memorable part of the ride was the Cracker Barrel lunch stop - once again our favorite stop due to great RV spaces.  I love checking out their dessert menus and figure that Dr Now finds his 600lb patients in Cracker Barrels. 2/4/22 - On the road to Kinston, NC to stop and have dinner at the Chef & the Farmer, the restaurant opened by Vivian Howard, the chef on one of Michael's favorite c...

Last time I saw a laundry room like this was 1983.  It did not bring back great memories, I hadn’t saved quarters, and I wasn’t looking forward to doing laundry here, but the room is clean, the machines work well, and there are a lot of them.  I’ve done laundry twice and it isn’t so bad.  #1 I don’t have a lot of it (1 machine full) and #2 the walk to the laundry room is short.  I’m approaching this like I approach waiting for my car for an oil change.  It’s about an 1 - 1 1/2 hours that I have to just sit and read, catch up on phone calls or knit.   More random thoughts: 1.  Florida drivers are as bad as I remember them.  I’m glad I’m driving around in a truck. 2.  Sunshine works better than drugs.  I’m sleeping great in my 8 x 7 “bedroom” even without Michael being here.  And, getting up easier in the AM (Theresa will be happy about that when it’s time to walk here.  We can get out at 7:30-8 instead of 8-8:30).  ...
